This activity includes quick and easy suggestions on how to make the traditional “minibeast hunt” multilingual, taking as its starting point pupils’ knowledge of home languages, and facilitating pupils and the teacher to learn from and with each other.
The included survey/activity sheet has extra space for pupils to include their home languages, as well as English, and asks some questions to engage pupils in thinking about why certain minibeasts may be on the sheet, but cannot be found, encouraging them to consider temperatures, seasons, and time of day.
This activity works well as part of a larger scheme of work, beginning with the “Name This Minibeast” activity, followed by the Minibeast Survey, and culminating in the “Minibeast Display” activity.
